Virginia Leona Walhus -- Spring Grove

SPRING GROVE -- The funeral for Virginia Leona Walhus will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove, with the Rev. Zane Anderson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Walhus, 83, of Decorah, formerly of Spring Grove, died Thursday (Dec. 11, 2003) at Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital in Decorah.

Virginia Leona Otterness was born Feb. 27, 1920, in Spring Grove and lived in the area all her life. In December 1942, she married Elvin Walhus, and they farmed in rural Spring Grove. Mr. Walhus died March 30, 1992. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove and enjoyed quilting, playing the piano, long drives and trips to flower shops.

Survivors include two sons, Lowell (Marion) and Russell (Debbie), both of Spring Grove; a grandchild; five stepgrandchildren; 12 stepgreat-grandchildren; a stepgreat-great-grandchild; and her stepmother, Violet Otterness. She was preceded in death by three brothers.

Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Roble Funeral Home in Spring Grove and an hour before the service Monday at the church.
