Voters OK 3-town merger near St. Cloud

ROCKVILLE, Minn. -- Residents in Rockville, Rockville Township and Pleasant Lake voted 656-124 Monday to merge their communities on June 1.

Leaders in the communities, about 10 miles southwest of St. Cloud, touted the change as a cost-saving move.

The combined community will have about 2,500 people.

Each of the three communities will have one last government meeting in the next two weeks before a 12-member interim government takes over. The interim government will consist of four officials from each area who will serve until January 2004, when a mayor and six council members, to be elected in November 2003, will take office.
