Scattered thunderstorms are expected this afternoon.
A few will be strong, potentially severe, carrying a large hail and damaging wind threat.
The higher risk for severe weather currently lies across parts of southeast Minnesota and northeast Iowa.
Hazard: Damaging winds, large hail, localized heavy rain associated with strong to severe thunderstorms.
Impact: Damage to trees, power lines, unsecured yard items from damaging wind; damage to vehicles, home exteriors, and crops from hail. People with outdoor activities should remain weather aware and be ready to seek shelter indoors.
Timing: 1 p.m. through 6 p.m.
Seasonable temperatures are going to stick around awhile, giving the region a much needed break from the recent hot and humid conditions. There will be periodic storm chances too.
