Weir brings keyboard prowess to music series

Dame Gillian Weir, selected as one of the 100 greatest keyboard players of the 20th century, is the next featured artist in the Festival of Music series at First Presbyterian Church.

Weir will perform at 4 p.m. March 23 at the church, 512 Third St. S.W.

She was born in New Zealand, but has long lived in England, where she will perform later this year at the Westminster Abbey Festival in collaboration with dancers from the English National Ballet.

Weir has performed in the U.S., Canada, Spain, Germany and Scandinavia, as well as at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris and 45 appearances at Royal Festival Hall in London. Her repertoire reaches from the Renaissance to contemporary music. The selection of her as one of the top keyboard players of the 20th century was by Classic CD magazine.

Her program at First Presbyterian will include works by Reger, Franck, Francaix, Vierne and Jongen.
