ST. PAUL -- A bookie known for selling flowers on street corners, avoiding gambling convictions and having his home raided by police died Thursday of pancreatic cancer.
Max Weisberg, who escaped the convictions because of serious mental deficiencies, was 79.
A local fixture, Weisberg sold flowers on St. Paul's street corners and in bars and restaurants. But he drew fame for his prodigious sports bookmaking skills.
