EDMONTON, Alberta -- Manny Fernandez had 25 saves in his first exhibition game and the Minnesota Wild beat the Edmonton Oilers 1-0 Sunday night.
Stephane Veilleux scored 6:47 into the game for the Wild (1-0-1-0).
Fernandez, who played the entire game, stopped two shots by Mike Comrie from close range in the opening five minutes. He stopped Comrie again on a tight-angle rush midway through the second and denied Jason Chimera's chip-in attempt with the period winding down.
Fernandez had one shutout last season with Minnesota, posting a 12-24-5 record with a 2.85 goals-against average.
Jeff Deslauriers also played the whole game and had 20 saves for the Oilers (1-2-0-0).
