16-year-old manages theater in 1937

1987 — 25 years ago

An open house was held in the quarters of the Southeastern Minnesota Chapter of the American Red Cross at 2116 Campus Drive S.E. Lois Hamilton, executive director, said she has 350 volunteers for various programs.

Private gifts to Mayo Foundation last year topped $25.2 million, the most in a single year since the development program started in 1970. The gifts came from 18,678 contributors.

1962 — 50 years ago

A new teacher salary proposal was accepted by the Lanesboro School Board. Annual base pay is $4,300 for a teacher with a four-year degree, a $100 increase from last year.

Jo Ann Brees, an eighth-grader at Golden Hills School, won the Olmsted County spelling bee.

1937 — 75 years ago

Donald Oliphant of Hayfield was recognized as the youngest theater manager in the state. He is 16 and manages the Roxy Theater in Hayfield.

The Rochester Kennel Club’s second annual dog show will be at the Rochester Armory.
