SHOREVIEW — Hennepin County sheriff's officials say two people are dead in a pair of incidents that has led to the closure of Interstate 694 in the Shoreview area north of St. Paul.
The officials told reporters it began with a shooting that left one man dead at the Elm Creek rest stop on Interstate 94 in Maple Grove about 1 a.m. Wednesday.
Officers later spotted a vehicle matching the description of the suspect's vehicle. They pursued the vehicle until it crashed on I-694, about 20 miles east of the rest stop. Authorities say the suspect got out and brandished a weapon. Officers opened fire, and the man was killed.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation says I-694 is expected to remain closed between Interstate 35W and Interstate 35E until around 7:30 a.m.
