The list of 2016 Minnesota Department of Transportation projects in District 6, which covers southeastern Minnesota:

1. Highway 3 in Rice County

Description: Resurfacing on Highway 3 to Rice/Dakota County line. Highways 298/299 work included in this project

Construction Dates: May 31 - August 2016

Construction Bid: $1,124,738

Traffic Impacts: Long-term lane closures

Status: Crane Creek Asphalt is contractor

2. Highway 14 in Olmsted, Winona Counties

Description: Resurfacing from Chester to St. Charles

Construction Dates: July to September 2016

Construction Bid: $4.9 million

Traffic Impacts: Lane restrictions, daily lane closures with flaggers

Status: Rochester Sand & Gravel is contractor

Highway 14 Steele County

Description: Design-build of three bridges east of Owatonna, part of project that includes I-35 bridges

Construction Dates: September 2016 – September 2018

Construction Estimate: $29.6 million

Traffic Impacts: Lane closures

Status: Lunda Construction is contractor

3. Highway 19 in Rice County (carryover)

Description: Historic bridge rehabilitation near Carleton College

Construction Dates: May 2015 to June 2016

Construction Bid: $1.4 million

Traffic Impacts: Minimal. Occasional lane closures

Status: Global Specialty Contractors, Inc. is contractor

4. Highway 30 in Dodge County

Description: Bridge replacement east of Hayfield

Construction Dates: June to September 2016

Construction Estimate: $1 million

Traffic Impacts: Detour

Status: Bid letting March 18, 2016

5. Interstate 35 in Freeborn and Steele Counties

Description: Cable median barrier installation

Construction Dates: September to October 2016

Construction Bid: $1,094,658

Traffic Impacts: Lane restrictions, long-term southbound lane restrictions and no weekend restrictions

Status: Erickson Builders & Co. Inc. is contractor

6. Interstate 35 Steele County

Description: Replacement, design-build of six bridges between Owatonna and Hope. Part of project includes Highway 14 bridges at Owatonna

Construction Dates: September 2016- September 2018

Construction Estimate: $29.6 million

Traffic Impacts: Long-term lane closures

Status: Lunda Construction is contractor

2016 Construction Projects

7. Interstate 35 in Steele County

Description: Straight River Rest Area replacement (northbound), parking lot and site improvements

Construction Dates: August to November 2016 with opening in 2017

Construction Estimate: $4.5 million

Traffic Impacts: Rest area closed during construction

Status: Awaiting bid finalization

8. Highway 42 in Wabasha County

Description: Bridge replacement on north end of Elgin, resurfacing and ADA improvements in Elgin

Construction Dates: July to September 2016

Construction Estimate: $1.8 million

Traffic Impacts: Detour

Status: Minnowa Construction is contractor

9. Highway 43 in Winona County (carryover project)

Description: Bridge rehabilitation and new bridge construction

Construction Dates: July 1, 2014 – Nov. 15, 2019, with new bridge opening in Fall 2016

Construction Estimate: $142,000,000

Traffic Impacts: Short-term local road closures, detours, bridge traffic remains open

Status: Ames Construction is contractor

11. Highway 52 in Olmsted County

Description: Replace bridge decks over Highway 63 in Rochester, extend northbound Hwy 52 third lane

Construction Dates: April 18 – Nov. 3, 2016

Construction Estimate: $4,240,000

Traffic Impacts: Highway 63: Long-term lane closures, ramp closures, detours; Highway 52: single lane with head-to-head traffic.

Status: Zenith Tech Inc. is contractor

11. Highway 52 in Olmsted County

Description: Striping of Highway 52 through Rochester.

Construction Dates: April 18 – May 2016

Construction Estimate: $695,178

Traffic Impacts: Lane closures in off-peak traffic hours.

Status: Triple A Striping is contractor

Description: Intelligent Transportation System extending traffic management system from 65th Street in Rochester to Elk Run interchange

Construction Dates: June to August 2016

Construction Bid: $350,000

Traffic Impacts: Minimal

10. Highway 52 in Goodhue County

Description: Resurfacing southbound lanes from Pine Island to north of Zumbrota

Construction Dates: May to June 2016

Construction Cost: $2.2 million

Traffic Impacts: Long-term lane closures

Status: Rochester Sand and Gravel is contractor

12. Highway 56 in Mower County

Description: Two bridge replacements at/near Adams

Construction Dates: June 16 - September 2016

Construction Bid: $1,417,782

Traffic Impacts: Detour

Status: ICON Construction LLC is contractor

13. Highway 57 in Dodge County

Description: Retaining wall reconstruction and restoration in Mantorville

Construction Date: June to August 2016

Construction Estimate: $1,430,000

Traffic Impacts: Lane shifts, minimal impact

Status: Bid letting April 20, 2016

14. Highway 61 in Goodhue County

Description: Reconstruction, median and pedestrian safety improvement

Construction Dates: March to end of August 2016 (second year)

Construction Estimate: $9.7 million

Traffic Impacts: Truck detour, single lane with head-to-head traffic

Status: Meyer Contractors is contractor

15. Highway 61 in Winona County

Description: Gilmore Avenue reconstruction, install new signal

Construction Dates: May 9 - September 2016

Construction Estimate: $1.69 million

Traffic Impacts: Long-term lane closures, Gilmore Avenue detour

Status: Dunn Blacktop Co., is the contractor

16. Highway 63 in Fillmore County

Description: Concrete pavement repair, storm sewer work and ADA improvements in Spring Valley

Construction Date: May to June 2016

Construction Bid: $400,000

Traffic Impacts: Southbound detour, northbound single lane with lane shifts, intersecting roads closed

Status: Chippewa Concrete is contractor

17. Interstate 90 in Winona County (carryover project)

Description: Replace Dresbach Bridge over the Mississippi River

Construction Dates: 2013 - 2016

Construction Estimate: $187,543,070

Traffic Impacts: Reduced to single lane in both directions, ramp closures/detour

Status: Ames Construction

18. Highway 105 Mower County

Description: Resurfacing south of Austin to west ramps of I-90

Construction Dates: May to July 2016

Construction Estimate: $1,700,000

Traffic Impacts: Daily lane closures, short-term intersection road closures/detours culvert for work

Status: Awaiting bid approval

19. Highway 250 in Fillmore County

Description: Two bridge replacements north of Lanesboro

Construction Dates: May to October 2016

Construction Bid: $3,813,794

Traffic Impacts: Detour, temporary restrictions/closures for recreational river users

Status: Minnowa Construction the apparent low bidder

2016 Construction Projects

20. Highway 298/299 in Rice County

Description: Resurfacing in Faribault, on Highway 298 from Highway 60 to Minnesota State Academy for the Blind and On Highway 299 from Highway 60 to the State Academy for the Deaf. Work on Highway 3 and resurfacing on Highway 3 to Rice/Dakota County line is included in this project.

Construction Dates: May 31 – August 2016
