250 flags to be displayed for Armistice Day in 1936

1986 — 25 years ago

The 13-bedroom Queen Anne Victorian home at 419 Fourth St. S.W., built in 1893 for Dr. C. Mayo’s bride, Edith Graham, Rochester’s first nurse, will go on the auction block. The home stood next door to Dr. Will Mayo’s home on what was then called College Street. The sale will be Nov. 22, 1986.

1961 — 50 years ago

A ceremony at Oakwood Cemetery will mark Veterans Day. A flag in memory of James M. Pruett will be presented to the American Legion. Pruett’s work included the establishment of a portion of Oakwood Cemetery for veterans who die in Rochester and are unclaimed by relatives.

1936 — 75 years ago

Stores will be closed from 10:30 a.m. to noon for an Armistice Day program in Soldiers Field. Fire Chief C.E. Ginther asked businessmen to clear sidewalk flagpole sockets of snow, ice and dirt so firemen can place flags in them. Some 250 flags will be displayed.
