29 arrested for sex trafficking in Rochester

Since late May, Rochester Police's Street Crimes Unit has have 29 arrested involving sex trafficking in the city, according to the Rochester Police Department.

They were part of five operations involving seeking juveniles and adults for prostitution, promoting prostitution and engaging in prostitution.

The 29 were:

• Eleven were arrested for offering to hire someone between 15 and 17 for prostitution.

• Eight were arrested for offering an adult for prostitution.

• Four were arrested for promoting or profiting from prostitution.

• Six were arrested for engaging in prostitution.

The crimes unit also helped federal authorities in two cases that involved sex trafficking in Rochester. With their help, two suspects were charged in federal court with promoting juveniles for sex trafficking.

Since mid 2010, the unit has been taking a more proactive approach and has made 111 arrests for prostitution-related crimes.
