3 new grade schools to open in 1960

1985 — 25 years ago

Jack Odom, a Rochester IBM engineer has been transferred to Beijing, China, to open a new software engineering institute, teaching software development skills to Chinese programmers.

What apparently is the largest fire in Fountain’s history destroyed the Fountain Building Center lumberyard downtown this morning.

1960 — 50 years ago

The elementary school in Country Club Manor opened for classes, the first of three new public grade schools opening within a few weeks. The building at Elton Hills is expected to be ready in a week and the school at Sunset Terrace soon after Thanksgiving.

Sally Dodge Reese, who recently returned to Rochester after spending a year working as a physical therapist in Sweden, will show movies to members of the Southern Minnesota Chapter of the American Physical Therapy Association.

1935 — 75 years ago

A group of Northrop School mothers will organize a singing group. Mrs. J.S. McNiff will be the leader, assisted by Helen Church.
