5 injured in U.S. 61 crash

MINNESOTA CITY — Five people were injured, one critically, when an SUV and a motorcycle collided Sunday on U.S. 61 at Minnesota City.

A Minnesota State Patrol report says that a Harley-Davidson motorcycle driven by a 56-year-old Minnesota City man — his name has not disclosed — was attempting to cross U.S. 61 on Frank Street when it was hit by an SUV driven by Ronald Brantner, 59, of Wabasha.

Riding with Brantner were his wife, Martha Brantner, 56, and two children — Piper Carrls, 4, and Paecyn Carrls, 1.

The motorcycle rider was taken in critical condition to Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, Wis.

All four people in the SUV were taken to Community Memorial Hospital in Winona with serious, but not life-threatening, injuries, the report says. All four people had their seat belts fastened.
