93-year-old cashier robbed; woman arrested

A woman is behind bars this morning, accused of robbing the 93-year-old clerk of Sunny Market , a small shop across the street from Saint Marys Hospital.

The call came in at 5:32 p.m., sending Rochester police to 1139 Second St. SW, where they found the victim "shaken up, but uninjured," said Capt. John Sherwin.

She told them a woman had been in the store with her 4-year-old child, buying beer, the report says. When the register drawer opened for the transaction, the suspect allegedly pushed the cashier away, reached into the drawer and grabbed "as much (money) as she could get," Sherwin said.

Officers were able to track the woman to Virgil's Auto Clinic , just east of the market, then learned she'd contacted a taxi to take her to 803 Second St. SW, the report says.

That's where police arrested Nakita Woods, 30, after the 93-year-old victim identified her as the woman who'd robbed the store, Sherwin said.
