Clinton Bergene, a senior at Southland High School in Adams, received a $1,000 scholarship from the AgStar Fund for Rural America.

The corporate giving program of AgStar Financial Services, the AgStar Fund for Rural America awards $20,000 in scholarships each year to 20 graduating seniors within AgStar's Minnesota/Wisconsin territory.

Bergene plans to attend the University of Minnesota and major in agricultural education. He is the son of Brian and Teresa Bergene, of Rose Creek.

Kalyn Jacobsen, a recent graduate of Lyle High School, has received an Excellence Scholarship from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn. Her high school activities included National Honor Society, Student Council, Senior Class President, band, choir and dance. Kalyn is the daughter of Rick and Julie Jacobsen, of Lyle.

Justin Hansen, an eighth-grader at Ellis Middle School in Austin, has been accepted to Experimental Aircraft Association's Basic Air Academy 2010 in Oshkosh, Wis. He is being sponsored by Austin's local EAA Chapter 386. The Air Academy is June 26-July 1 and allows young people the opportunity to work with aviation professionals in both classroom and workshop settings.

Justin is the son of Tim and Becky Hansen.

DAR meets

The Red Cedar Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution met on May 6 at the home of Karyl Brabbit, in Faribault. Among the items on the agenda:

• The Red Cedar Chapter received three awards at the State DAR Conference in Mankato: 1. One hundred percent participation in President General's Project from State; 2. Outstanding Achievement in DAR Project Patriot from State; and 3. Outstanding Work for Constitution Week from State.

• The State Regent's Project is Miracle Lodge/Ironwood Springs. DAR helps with the expenses of soldiers and families who attend Miracle Lodge.

- The Nominating Committee presented the slate of officers for the coming term: regent, Cheryl Potter; vice regent, Alice Anderson; secretary, Polly Jelinek; treasurer, Judy Brown; registrar, Karly Brabbit.
