Passengers flying into and out of Rochester have fewer choices this week with both Delta and American airlines cutting flights.
Delta eliminated its two direct flights from Rochester to Detroit and American cut one of its Rochester-to-Chicago flights. Both cuts took effect on Thursday.
Officials at the Rochester International Airport say that these cuts are mainly due to the annual decline in passenger volume during the holidays, and similar reductions have been done in the past.
"We are certainly disappointed, but this is a somewhat seasonal change," says Deputy Airport Director Kurt G. Claussen. "Though this is a little more severe than in past years."
Last fall, Delta cut one of the Detroit flights and then brought it back in June.

This year both airlines say the flight cuts are part of their efforts to reduce their overall costs for the fourth quarter. They say similar reductions are happening at many other airports.
