What should be done to solve the state's $6 billion budget deficit?

The majority of the solution will be solved through reduction in spending, elimination of nonessential services and reform. To pay for core services such as veterans programs, services for people with disabilities and education, some new revenue may be needed to keep costs from being transferred to property taxes.

What is one regional issue you would work on?

Every year, I am asked to work on several issues for residents in the district I represent. I will work on issues ranging from mental health education to co-locating the WorkForce Center at the RCTC campus to developing a way to transition beginning farmers to farm ownership.

Would you support legislation to grant the city of Rochester the authority to put before voters a ballot measure to renew the city's sales tax?

Yes, as long as the majority of the tax revenue generated from the sales tax is used for projects of regional significance such as roads, bridges and improvements for higher education.

Would you support a proposed freight rail bypass of Rochester?

No. I believe that mitigation of the current rail line is possible and that safety, congestion and other community concerns can be addressed by making improvements to the current rail line.
