An Apache Mall business lost a "considerable amount" of money Wednesday after its deposit bag of cash from the prior day was stolen at gunpoint by a masked assailant from employees in the parking lot. The robber fled on foot and remains at large.
According to a spokesperson from the Rochester Police Department, two employees from an unnamed business were confronted by a man with a gun who appeared to be "lurking" in the area at about 9:40 a.m.
The man stole the bag of money, pushed one of the employees to the ground and then fled northbound across U.S. 14 into the neighborhood near Soldiers Field, according to police. Surveillance video of the incident confirmed the employees' version of events, but the distance was too great to gain much insight into the assailant's description.
The victims, who were not injured, described the robber as being a 5 foot, 6 inch black male who was wearing blue jeans, a grey hooded sweatshirt and a white mask.
A police dog was unsuccessful in tracking the man through the neighborhood, though a witness reported seeing a man matching that general description running in that general vicinity.
