Austin man charged with motor vehicle theft

An Austin man arrested in Minneapolis after allegedly stealing his ex-wife's car appeared Tuesday in Mower County District Court.

Rashid Jihad Rahim, 47, was charged with one count each of felony motor vehicle theft and financial transaction card fraud, a gross misdemeanor.

According to the police report, a 54-year-old woman told Austin police she had loaned her vehicle to her ex-husband — Rahim — early Sunday morning so he could move some items from a home in Austin.

By 10:20 a.m., he hadn’t returned the vehicle as promised; the woman reported the car stolen.

About 6:30 that evening, Austin Police Department received a call from University of Minnesota police, saying they had located the vehicle and had two people in custody.
