Austin men connected to meth lab, police say

Two Austin men were arrested early Wednesday for allegedly having meth in a backpack and operating a meth lab in the woods between Hormel Foods' corporate office in Austin, police said.

Austin police, acting on a tip, confronted the men, ages 19 and 20, about 1 a.m. in downtown Austin. Police questioned them and searched a backpack. Officers found meth-lab materials and two foil packets containing meth in the backpack, Austin Police Chief Brian Krueger said.

Information about the meth lab came out during further questioning, police said.

The Southeast Minnesota Narcotics Gang Task Force was called to clean up the site, police say.
