Austin woman charged with criminal sexual conduct

AUSTIN — A 34-year-old woman faces two felony charges for allegedly engaging in a sex act with a 12-year-old boy at an Austin athletic field on July 13.

Lisa Marie Espe, of Austin, was charged July 19 in Mower County District Court with first-degree criminal sexual conduct and second-degree criminal sexual conduct.

According to the criminal complaint, the victim's parent provided the Austin Police Department with a "chat log" between their son and the defendant that showed electronic communication between July 9 and July 14, including a picture sent by the victim.The chat log shows that the two planned to meet at a public athletic field in Austin where the alleged incident occurred.

The defendant was aware of the victim's age, according to the complaint.

If convicted, Espe faces a maximum penalty of 30 years in prison and a $40,000 fine. Her next court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 1.
