A 6-month-old baby was shot in the hand during a Friday evening walk near a Rochester park, police said today.
Officers were called about 6:50 p.m. to the emergency room of a local hospital for a report of a baby with a BB embedded in her hand.
The child's mother told police she and her boyfriend had been walking near Slatterly Park about 6:10 p.m. when they saw two boys on bicycles carrying BB guns. She said she heard popping, then her daughter began to cry.
The woman saw blood, then realized the baby had been hit; they drove the child to the hospital, where the BB was removed without incident.
According to the report, the boys — described as about 12 years old — rode their bikes south toward 11th Avenue Southeast after the incident.

Firing a BB gun is legal within the city limits, said Lt. Mike Sadauskis.
