Bail set for man accused in knife assault

Bail is set at $80,000 for a Rochester man  accused of assaulting another man with a knife in a dispute in the downtown area Saturday evening.

Christopher John Jones, 35, 101 E. Center St., No. 314, is charged with second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon,  two counts of felony stalking, one count of felony making terroristic threats and one count of gross misdemeanor fifth-degree assault.

He was arraigned on the charges Tuesday. Olmsted County District Judge Jodi Williamson set the bail at $80,000. He returns to court Nov. 8.

The complaint alleges Jones had been at CJ's bar drinking with some other men and then went outside to have a smoke.  On the east side of the building, he allegedly got upset when another man, who had been drinking with him inside, called him "boy."

The complaint said Jones punched the other man in the face. The other man apologized and said he was joking, but Jones allegedly pulled out a knife and went towards the victim, who ran back into the bar and had employees call police.

Jones went back to his residence, where he was later found. He had two knives on his person and the complaint said he had taken an overdose of sleeping pills in an apparent suicide attempt. He was taken to Saint Marys Hospital by ambulance after being identified as the suspect by witnesses.
