BYRON — The 2012 Bluebird Expo is scheduled for 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on April 14 at Byron Middle School, 601 Fourth St. N.W., Byron.
"Want to attract bluebirds? This is the place to learn," promotional material says.

The number of bluebirds decreased as the number of farmers who switched from wooden fence posts to metal ones increased, as tall-growth forests were cut down and as suburban areas grew. When the reasons for the decrease were recognized, efforts to help the birds began.
In 1979, 11 Minnesota volunteers began working to increase the population, and 22 bluebird fledgelings were raised. Last year, 15,668 fledgelings were raised by 502 volunteers. Organizers hope to spur more interest.
Presentation topics at the expo include bluebirds, wood ducks and purple martins.
