Boys Basketball Section 1AAA | Winona falls to New Prague in section final

Winona didn't live up to its billing Friday night, as it went on a series of scoring droughts and fell 43-28 to New Prague in the Section One, Class AAA boys basketball championship game Friday at Mayo Civic Arena.

The Winhawks (21-5) were ranked third in state Class AAA.

However, New Prague forced 18 Winona turnovers and never allowed the Winhawks to get into an offensive flow en route to pulling off the upset.

New Prague, which fell to Winona in last year's section championship, takes a 23-6 record into the state tournament. It was ranked 10th in the state poll.

The Winhawks were led by Mark Blacklock with 13 points and eight rebounds. New Prague got 13 points from Jed Kreuser.
