STEWARTVILLE — When Reine Mayer arrived at her hair salon on Main Street on Thursday morning, she found the cash register on the floor, several drawers pulled open and scattered coins.
"It was right in broad daylight," she said about the burglary that occurred about 7 a.m. at the business she owns, Stylin' Salon, 200 N. Main St. The business in on the city's main drag. The lock was removed from the front door, and money was taken from the cash register. The alarm went off when the door was opened, she said, so the thief or thieves had only a few minutes to get out and away.
"That's pretty brazen," said Sgt. Scott Behrns of the Olmsted County Sheriff's Office. "I have a feeling that at that time of the day, in Stewartville, somebody saw something."
Mayer said there was no damage to the business.
Behrns said he couldn't be certain but that the break-in sounded similar to a handful of salon burglaries this month in Rochester.
