Building of Silver Lake dam expected in 1935

1985 — 25 years ago

A new teacher contract was approved in Caledonia. The two-year agreement calls for 16.3 percent increases in salary and fringe benefits.

1935 — 75 years ago

The city council adopted a resolution that the city possesses necessary land for creation of a lake. A dam at Silver Lake will be constructed at the site of the former North Broadway Bridge, a few feet east of the bridge that now spans the river. Excavation and leveling of the lake area is in full swing under the WPA, and development of the lake will take place next summer. The engineers said the dam project should be done by next spring.

The county board has voted to equip both the sheriff’s office and car with short wave radio receiving sets.
