Burglar targets local laundromat

A Rochester laundromat was the target of a burglar who tried to drill open the lock on a change machine, then stole the DVR system for its security cameras, police said today.

The incident occurred sometime between 3:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Northgate Coin Laundromat, 1220 Seventh St. NW.

After the suspect failed to get into the change machine — but caused "several hundred dollars worth of damage" — he pried open a utility room door, said Capt. John Sherwin.

Inside was the electronic system that monitored and recorded activity in the facility; it was stolen.

There are no suspects.
