A Byron woman was acquitted Wednesday by a jury on charges that she allegedly bit a child in the face.

Shawna Margaret Morris, 25, was found not guilty of felony charges of malicious punishment of a child under four and third-degree assault-victim under four. A gross misdemeanor charge of contributing to the need for protection or services was dismissed.

The Olmsted County District Court trial began Monday and ended Wednesday with the not guilty verdicts, according to court records.

The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office was contacted on Aug. 22, 2016, by Olmsted County Child Protection following a report that a child was bit in the face by Morris. When interviewed by the authorities, Morris conceded that she caused the injury but said it was accidental, according to court documents.
