Capping ceremony for 128 nurses

1985 — 25 years ago

Report cards will be distributed to students in all five Rochester junior and senior high schools this week.

Mayo Clinic has modified its planned Scottsdale, Ariz., facility to be more compatible with the desert and more agreeable to surrounding property owners.

1960 — 50 years ago

Helen Love was honored at a dinner given by elementary school faculty. Love will retire after serving as a second-grade teacher in Preston for 42 years.

A $490,000 school bond issue was defeated by voters in Stewartville with 592 no votes compared to 439 yes votes. Superintendent H.H. Schaefer said board members will see what suggestions or comments come from the voters.

A record number of 128 students of the Saint Marys School of Nursing received nurse’s caps in ceremonies in the auditorium and chapel. About 1,200 attended the ceremonies and reception in Marion Hall.

1935 — 75 years ago

For the second consecutive year, all of the graduates of the medical secretarial course at Rochester Junior College have accepted positions several weeks in advance of receiving their certificates of graduation. Many of the graduates are employed at Mayo Clinic, although some are working in hospitals and clinics in other cities and states. Rochester Junior College was the first collegiate institution in the United States to establish a course for medical secretaries.
