Car, Rochester school bus collide, one injured

One man suffered minor injuries this morning after the car he was driving struck a school bus in northwest Rochester.

The bus was carrying one student and a paraprofessional, in addition to the driver; they reported no injuries, the report says.

The crash occurred about 7 a.m. at the corner of 52nd Avenue and Duvall Street Northwest, an uncontrolled intersection.

The 39-year-old driver of the car was westbound on Duvall when the vehicle struck the northbound bus, said Capt. John Sherwin. The car's air bags deployed, apparently causing a leg injury.

The vehicle hit the school bus at such an angle or with such velocity that it broke the drive shaft on the bus, he said.

The school bus driver appeared to have had the right of way, the report says. The investigation is ongoing.
