Chatfield school starts day in 'secure mode'

Chatfield Elementary School started its day in "secure mode" due to information the district received about somebody who might be upset and come to the school, said Chatfield Superintendent Ed Harris.

However, the information, which the school received either last night or early this morning, turned out to be inaccurate, Harris said. Therefore, the school returned to its regular operation.

Harris said students and staff were never in any type of danger.

For Chatfield schools, secure mode means that staff members are to keep a closer eye on the entrances to the building.

"It's not a lock-down," Harris said. "It's just a more advanced observatory mode. Conditions like this are fairly common if, for example, you have a parent who's upset and might come to the school and make a scene or something."

Harris said the high school has gone into secure mode a couple of times as well.
