1962 — 50 years ago

Spring Valley cheerleader Frances Baker was kicked unconscious during the final seconds of the district basketball championship game at Mayo Civic Auditorium. Frances said she was jumping up and down and got hit on the head. Spring Valley won the game 42-39 — "even if I hit my head, it was worth it," she said.

1937 — 75 years ago

W.A. Moore was elected mayor of Rochester. Moore received 2,930 votes; Julius Reiter received 2,115.

Mary Massey will be honored for her 50-year career in sales at the C.F. Massey store. In 1887, she traveled from her home in Ohio to work at her cousin's store here.
