The Rochester Park and Recreation Department is seeking citizen input to guide a long-range planning effort for Quarry Hill Park and Nature Center , a popular area resource.
An open house Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the nature center, is planned to gather public feedback on a master plan for the park, according to a city news release.
Quarry Hill is one of three parks in the region designated by the state's Greater Minnesota Parks and Trails Commission as a regionally significant park. With Cascade Lake Park and Gamehaven Park, Quarry Hill is part of the commission's Southeast Minnesota planning process.
A master plan in development would guide long-range planning efforts for Quarry Hill, including concepts for the park's preservation, vision and improvements. Planning efforts also would maximize the park's potential for state Legacy funding by prioritizing the park's recreational and educational potential.
Some enhancements being considered at the park include renovation and expansion of exhibit spaces, trail development, natural and historical interpretation, added educational space, addition of an indoor natural rockscape wall, natural play area, honeybee apiary and added educational programming.
