Complaint alleges St. Charles man assaulted girl

Authorities have charged a St. Charles man with felony third-degree criminal sexual conduct after they say he assaulted a girl under the age of 16.

Michael Darius Stanger, 36, of 848 St. Charles Ave., was charged by summons Jan. 31 in Olmsted County District Court. His first court appearance has been set for March 11.

According to the criminal complaint, the incidents happened between November 2010 and February 2011. The girl told her mother about the assaults after an attempted burglary at their home in March 2012, when the door to the girl's bedroom was forced open. There were no signs of forced entry into the residence; Stanger is believed to have keys to the home, the report says.

The girl told investigators that Stanger would come into her bedroom and assault her; he stopped when she began to lock her bedroom door, the complaint says. Stanger has denied anything sexual occurred between them, the complaint says.

If convicted, the charge is punishable by up to 15 years in prison, a $30,000 fine or both.
