A fire overnight Thursday caused about $7,000 damage to computer equipment at Mayo Clinic's Harwick Building.
Rochester Fire Department was dispatched about 12:38 a.m. today to the building for a commercial alarm from the fifth floor. Crews and Mayo security found smoke in a room with computer equipment and initially thought it was from a light fixture or electric source.
Upon further investigation, it was found to be from the equipment, according to a press release. The computer hardware was taken outside by firefighters and extinguished. Mayo facilities personnel were contacted to ventilate the smoke in the room.
The cause appears to be accidental, the report says.
