Copper stolen from school's AC unit

A copper theft from an exterior air conditioning unit last month resulted in about $8,000 in damages at Schaeffer Academy in Rochester, according to police.

The copper was stolen between Oct. 19 and Oct. 24, with the theft reported to police on Thursday, according to Lt. Dan Muyres. The K-12 private school is in the 2700 block of Schaeffer Lane N.E.

The $8,000 loss takes into account the cost of replacing the copper in addition to repair costs, Muyres said.
