Count birds, help the environment Dec. 19

The Zumbro Valley Audubon Society will take part in the nation's 116th annual Audubon Christmas Bird Count on Dec. 19.

Birders and those who would like to take part to learn more about birding are asked to meet at 7:15 a.m. at the west Silver Lake parking lot near the fire station. Birders will be divided into groups that will go out to count birds in and around Rochester. While the count has been going on for 116 years nationally, it has been done locally for only the past several decades.

After counting in the morning, birders will meet from noon to 1 p.m. to do an early tally and at 4:45 p.m. for the final count.

If you want to give a count of birds at your feed, you can down download a feed report form off the society's website at www.zumbrovalleyaudubon.org , or call Clifford Hansen at 281-0249 to have a paper form mailed to you.
