PRESTON — A husband and wife from rural Lanesboro each face five charges for allegedly making methamphetamine in their house while two children were present.
Adam Richard Laine, 28, and Heather Melissa Laine, 37, were charged Feb. 9 in Fillmore County District Court with first-degree manufacturing of meth, possessing precursors for making meth, making meth in the presence of vulnerable adults or children, felony endangering children and gross misdemeanor endangerment.
In a related case, each is charged with felony second-degree sale of a controlled substance.
The complaint alleges a confidential informant made a controlled buy from Heather Laine three times. In the first one, they met in Canton. The meth was a powder, indicating it was made locally instead of crystal meth brought in from Mexico or California.
On Feb. 8, the two were arrested, and authorities got a search warrant for the house. They found items such as lye, filters, bags and Coleman fuel that can be used to make meth. The smell inside the house was so bad, authorities said, that law enforcement officers had to go outside. They learned the couple had made 22 batches of meth in a month, according to the complaint.
