Crash closes parts of U.S. 61, injures one

DAKOTA — A Wisconsin man was seriously injured Tuesday morning in a crash on northbound U.S. 61 about two miles north of Dakota.

The State Patrol said Raymond L. Smith, 36, of Stoddard, Wis., was driving north on the highway in the right lane when his car left the road to the left. He overcorrected to the right, the car went into the ditch and hit a tree.

Smith was taken to Gundersen Health System in La Crosse, Wis. A hospital spokeswoman said he was still being evaluated at 10:15 a.m.

The crash was reported at 8:19 a.m.
