• U.S. Senate candidate Paul Wellstone visited the Gary Rink farm near Byron to decry an "outrageous" budget agreement. Wellstone's campaign bus is making a swing through southern Minnesota.
1965 – 50 years ago
• More than $10,000 in damage was caused by a fire in southwest Rochester that damaged the Look Nook Gift Shop, a restaurant and the Rainbow Rooms and Apartments.

• Crown Prince Harald, of Norway, will receive a key to the city, and he officially will be greeted by a delegation from Rochester Sons of Norway Lodge during his brief stop at the Rochester Airport later this week.
1940 – 75 years ago
• Rochester residents will be tuned into their radio this evening as President Roosevelt will address the nation regarding national security. He will discuss the draft and the reason for it.
• The aviation program of the national defense program will be discussed at a meeting of the William T. McCoy American Legion Post. Attending the program will be Dr. W.M. Boothby, Dr. R.W. Lovelace and Dr. A. H. Bulbulian. They will show motion pictures of medical aviation research and demonstrate the oxygen mask they devised.
1915 – 100 years ago
• Dr. and Mrs. W.J. Mayo and Dr. and Mrs. D.C. Balfour left by automobile for Winona. This evening they will depart on the Oronoco on a trip to southern waters. They will stop at Memphis.
• The teachers of the Rochester public schools will be entertained by the Methodist church at an informal "at home" in the social rooms of the church.
