Rochester, called a "boomtown" by Money magazine article three years ago, slipped from Money's top 20 places to live this year, but it is still a hit with the magazine. The city dropped to 28th on the chart, but it is still Minnesota's highest rated place to live.
A new program for the benefit of Channel One was announced today by Barlow Foods, sponsor of the program. Barlow customers will have the opportunity to "change-up" to the nearest dime, dollar or any amount they wish when shopping. The new program is expected to raise tens of thousands of dollars for Channel One.

Dr. Donald Church Balfour, 80, retired director of the Mayo Foundation, former longtime member of the Mayo Clinic staff and an internationally known gastric surgeon, died at St. Marys Hospital where he had been admitted earlier in the day. Death was caused by pulmonary edema due to a heart condition. One of Rochester's best known and respected citizens through the years, Balfour's early career paralleled those of Drs. C.H. and W.J. Mayo and their first clinic associates.
Walls came tumbling down as demolition of the 66-year old Zumbrota Elementary School began this week. The school bell and cornerstone have been removed so a memorial to the old school may be erected near the new elementary school two blocks south .
1938 – 75 years ago
A prediction that Rochester's population will be shown by the city directory to be 25,000 or more has been made. The prediction was by George P. Keiter of Rochester, president of the Keiter Directory Company, who last year fixed the population as 23,139. Keiter said the new directory will be issued in September.
Social calendar highlights include parties held in honor of Miss Elizabeth Little and August Helmholz who will be married Saturday evening in Winona.
