DFL Gov. Mark Dayton left Mayo Clinic on Tuesday and is headed back to the Governor's Mansion to continue his recovery after spinal surgery, according to his spokeswoman.
Dayton had surgery on Thursday to relieve constriction on part of his spine and to fuse a vertebrae that has shifted out of alignment. He had been expected to leave the hospital on Monday but decided to spend another day in Rochester recovering. Members of the Olmsted County DFL sent the governor a plant to wish him a speedy recovery while at Mayo Clinic.
Public events planned for the first two weeks of January have been rescheduled so the governor can continue recovering at home. The 2013 legislative session starts on Jan. 8.
