Edward Dooley turned 85 on Oct. 20.
Ed is a native of Rochester, having graduated from Rochester High School in June 1943. Soon after, Ed joined the Navy and went to boot camp in Farragut, Idaho. Upon graduation, he was assigned to an aircraft carrier (large) and joined the 5th Fleet in the South Pacific, where they stayed until war's end. The ship was one of many that sailed into Tokyo Bay for the signing of the peace treaty on Sept. 2, 1945.
Ed spent 20 years in the Navy and held the rank of Chief Radarman Petty Officer. Following his discharge he spent 17 years with the Postal Service in Rochester. He now resides in Austin with family members.
