Door shattered as shots fired at apartment complex

A sliding glass door was shattered after witnesses heard two shots fired early this morning at a northwest Rochester apartment complex, according to police.

A man inside the second-floor apartment told police that he heard a commotion outside before he heard a gunshot and glass shatter at 1:15 a.m. The man said he thought he heard a second shot at Winchester Apartments in the 3900 block of 19th Avenue Northwest, according to Lt. Dan Muyres.

Another witness told police she heard one or two shots, then saw a light-colored car leaving the area. Muyres said police also received a report of a woman running in the parking lot, getting into a separate car, and leaving, but it wasn’t clear if she may have been connected to the incident.

It’s likely the man whose door was shattered wasn’t being intentionally targeted by the gunfire, Muyres said. No injuries were reported in the incident.

Police found no shell casings at the scene. Investigators don’t know who was fighting or what they were fighting about, Muyres said.
