Downtown items on council's Monday agenda

The Rochester City Council has several downtown-related items on its 7 p.m. agenda on Monday. They include:

• A proposal by Doug Knott, the city's development administrator, to seek quotes to demolish the former KTTC building, 601 First Ave. S.W. The city bought the building in 2009 to set aside for future development of the University of Minnesota Rochester.

• A request by the Rochester Downtown Alliance that the city reauthorize a $100,000 program offering financial aid to downtown property owners who improve their buildings' exteriors. The city put $200,000 into the program last year, and 17 owners received grants. Recognizing the state of the economy, the RDA is asking now for only half of last year's funding amount, according to Executive Director Jon Eckhoff.
