Downtown pedestrian killed

At least one person has died after a driver struck four pedestrians on Broadway in downtown Rochester shortly after 12:30 a.m. today.

A male driver was headed northbound on Broadway when he struck two pedestrians at the corner of Fourth Street and South Broadway, killing one of the pedestrians, Police Lt. Scott Sherden said.

The driver continued north, hitting two more pedestrians at the corner of Broadway and Center Street, dragging them across the street before stopping. The driver got out of his car and ran away, Sherden said.

The driver was apprehended by police and taken into custody.

The name of the person who died was not released early this morning. Sherden said the other three pedestrians sustained "significant injuries." Their conditions were not known and their names were not released.
