Dynamite knocks out highway worker in 1937

1987 — 25 years ago

"St. Mary’s College: 75 Years of Excellence" is the slogan of the year-long celebration on the Winona campus. Bishop Patrick Heffron founded the college in 1912.

After a commencement address by Msgr. Shannon, president of the College of St. Thomas in St. Paul, 108 graduates of the Saint Marys School of Nursing received diplomas before a capacity crowd in the Saint Marys auditorium.

1937 — 75 years ago

Ninety-five pounds of dynamite exploded as a highway worker was trying to push it out of range of a grass fire. The worker was blown 15 feet and knocked unconscious but is recovering.

A motor truck show, displaying the latest in chassis, cabs, bodies and trailers, will be held in Rochester by Postier and Eggers, GMC dealers.

More than 400 people attended the annual picnic given by the Knights of Columbus at Grandview Park.
