At 6:55 a.m., officials closed the eastbound lanes of I-90 just before the approach to Wisconsin where traffic crosses the Mississippi River. At least 12 vehicles were initially reported in crashes just into Wisconsin. A law enforcement vehicle suffered damage, but the deputy was unhurt, according to scanner traffic reports. Injuries were reported. There was also a crash in the westbound lane on the Minnesota side.
Traffic was backed up about four miles on I-90, according to a deputy at the scene.
Traffic was routed through LaCrescent and then over the bridge into La Crosse, Wis., while authorities cleared the vehicles from the highway.
The site is about 67 miles southeast of Rochester. Traffic was opened up on the eastbound lanes shortly after 8 a.m.
