Edina company awarded military contract

EDINA — An Edina company has been awarded a military contract to build miniature robots.

ReconRobotics has military orders, worth nearly $6 million, to build the mini robots that can perform surveillance in areas that are considered too dangerous for troops, like inspecting a potential explosive device.

The small robots weigh just over a pound, can be deployed in 5 seconds and can be thrown up to 120 feet.
